Tasty beverage. Name of a new bar.
Last week the edmontonian reported on The Fox closing down. In that story we mentioned the Oil City Hospitality Group had bought the bar.
Now let’s talk about what it’s going to become.
The Coordinator of Responsible Hospitality Edmonton’s “Public Safety Compliance Team” said The Fox was a nightclub that attracted her police-badge wearing comrades. And it wasn’t because of cheap drink specials.
It closed down earlier this year ago. About 8 weeks ago, the Oil City group bought the location. Because it seems that’s their corner (they own The Bank, Rock Stars, Oil City Roadhouse and Fluid, which are all around 109 Street and Jasper).
Oil City’s Mike Sainchuk says the crime (like shootings) at The Fox hurt their reputation. “It gives us a bad name…to our area, being so close to us.”
He says (and the public safety team agrees) that Oil City Hospitality has “taken a lot of steps, security, to improve, to work with the public safety team.”
“They’ve been phenomenal with advice (Responsible Hospitality and the safety team). We work with all of them, the EPS (police), AGLC (Alberta Gaming and Liquor)…” Sainchuk says.
The idea that Oil City had for the bar also seemed to impress the public safety coordinator, Acting Sgt. Nicole Chapdelaine. So I mused at the end of the last story about what could be a “beneficial” bar.
“It’s going to be a pub,” says Sainchuk. “Called ‘The Pint.’”
A step up from a nightclub, from an owner that tries to rein in some partyers, according to the safety team.
“There will be lots of sports in there,” continues Sainchuk. “Lots of dark wood, we basically tore up the old bar from the floor up,”
“30 TV screens, with Oilers, Eskimos, NFL football. There will be the food, the wings, lots of beers on tap. More sports during the week then the weekends.”
Right now the construction continues. But Oil City’s Sainchuk says The Pint should be the newest bar in the group’s alcohol empire come September.
“That’s when (Oilers) training camp starts, people are getting excited.”
As for whether someone else should have been allowed to buy up the location, or be allowed to try and break up the Jasper Avenue monopoly of Oil City, Sainchuk slyly (like a fox…?) jokes; “They can try…”
Are you getting excited, Edmonton? A new bar in the city’s new entertainment district! (Or should we call it the Oil City district?)

w00t?
i dunno, why would people get excited about another bar that sounds just like every other ‘pub’ style bar in this town? Ceili’s, the Druid, Hudson’s Downtown, 1905, Red Star, anyone…?
I’m pretty sure the hook is the emphasis on sports, combined with the fact that it’s now owned by someone who has a track record of being an accountable business owner.
