Really. I’m not kidding around with that headline.

Not only are the following ladies seen as some of Profit Magazine’s top entrepreneurs and enterprising women in the country, I was tipped off to the story by an employee of one boss. It’s nice to know that, sometimes, the company’s bottom line isn’t the only thing that lands someone on a “top” list. Sometimes people are super-awesome and inspiring.
Profit itself is trying to look a little outside the money as well, now taking into account a company’s growth rate and profitability along with revenue.
From Profit’s W100 we had 3 women in Edmonton make the list. They include:
Teresa Spinelli snagged spot 13. She owns the Italian Centre Shop. I know you have eaten copious goodies from said shops.
Eveline Charles, of the beauty salons of her name, took position 24 on the list.
Ranking 94th, Alexis MacMillan of Christie Communications makes the list. They’re a company focused on e-learning, with interactive media production and design.
She’s the boss I was telling you about. Alexis makes the list and one of her employees (a previous contributor to the edmontonian) is telling us about it.
As she wrote in an e-mail: “It’s pretty exciting for our company.” And you thought this list was just about individuals.
I actually bumped into Ms. MacMillan at ChangeCamp this weekend. (Wow, and she’s trying to be an engaged citizen.) She’s been with Christie for 23 years, and President of the firm since 1997. She was happy to be recognized by me, for her newfound list-fame, but very modest about it all.
You know, I think I’ll simply say it again because it can be unusual; she’s such a good boss she has employees trumpeting her skills.
Anyway, rounding out this year’s Profit W100 is a new look at 10 up and coming business women.
Janet Ross, owner of Woman Boutique (Woman Inc.) on Stony Plain Road came in at number 6 on this list. The growing boutique sells women’s clothing and accessories.
Counting the “ones to watch” Edmonton had 4 women catch Profit’s eye. For the record, Calgary had 8 and there were 4 others from around Alberta. All in all, that means this province had 16 of the top 110 female entrepreneurs. Not bad.
Congratulations to all.
(I should note that just because I didn’t hear from employees of the 3 other bosses, I don’t want you to think they are right out of Office Space. I just thought it was cool that an employee was happy about, and with, her boss.)
Thanks for the shout-out Jeff!
