October 23 Edmonton Headlines

It's time for costumes and candy.

It's time for costumes and candy.

Good morning, Edmonton. It’s Friday, and we’ve put another week behind us.

There’s still plenty in the news about the hostage-taking at the Workers’ Compensation Board, and more on the man alleged to have walked in with a gun. With the accused in court today, that will be the case through the weekend.

There is other stuff going on. A late-night shooting just became a homicide, there are stories about the current and a former Oilers owner, and Alberta Hospital is back in the news.

Don’t forget to tell me if I missed a worthwhile story.

from the Edmonton Journal:

Crack addiction fed violence: ex-wife (The WCB incident.)

Hostage ’show’ over, real problems remain

NAIT workshop aims to prevent school shootings

St. Albert powerlines altered to protect birds

Pocklington bankruptcy fraud trial delayed until January

Katz rink built without tax dollars (Maybe he’ll get a taste for building without tax dollars?)

from the Edmonton Sun:

Ed seeks security review (After the WCB incident.)

Oil and gas association wants stimulus, further tax breaks (Via The Canadian Press)

from 630CHED/iNews880:

EPS investigate 23rd murder of ‘09

(Totally a side note here: I know I didn’t invent the idea of reading headlines and telling people what’s up. But I also know it wasn’t being done a whole lot by anyone in the traditional media…before. Happy to have inspired!)

from CBC Edmonton:

Province skirting consultation on hospital bed closures: psychiatrists

Get out there and have a good Friday.
