Good Monday, Edmonton.
I trust you made it safely through the weekend, and are just raring to go this week. Probably.
The term “roll up your sleeves” takes on a different meaning today, as the H1N1 vaccine fills needles across the city and arond Alberta. The flu shot for the regular seasonal virus has already been available. There’s been discussion of whether people will get a shot or not. What say you?
We also see our MLAs return to the Alberta Legislature this week. That’s not to say they are returning to work, since they should be doing work all the time, but it does mean they get to yell at each other for an hour of daily Question Period and other assorted goodness of a legislative session.
Hope you didn’t get caught in this morning’s traffic woes.
Health boss offers prizes (And while you’re telling us how to save money, could you tell us all the bad things your co-workers do?)
Agency fears homeless will miss flu shot offer
Police chaplains help officers face terrible times
Swiggers and smokers (I hope they mean they got their hands on the report first, and not that Statistics Canada is ONLY releasing it to one news chain.)
Opposition parties take aim at Stelmach
Flu fears may shut Leduc school (Or, kids just skipped class Friday,)
Meadows Fire/EMS station opens
Medical delegates from around the world arrive in Edmonton
Ousted MLA will vote on Stelmach’s leadership (Gee, I wonder how Guy Boutilier will vote.)
MLAs return to the legislature for the fall sitting
Jasper Place basketball coach remembered
Green leves leaves in October (And why we might have them.)
Alberta’s rat patrol stands on guard for thee
Thoughts, questions, comments and general hilariousness is always welcome in the comments.
(Totally a side note here: I know I didn’t invent the idea of reading headlines and telling people what’s up. But I also know it wasn’t being done a whole lot by anyone in the traditional media…before. Happy to have inspired!)
Ahem… Leves are still green? I thought it was a Global spelling error, but no – just the edmontonian. ;P
Thanks for the link to my super rad Fire Station pics… but I can’t be the only one missing the witty Headline titles of old…
Did anyone else read Ian Robinson’s incredibly sexist take on women in politics in the Sun? Reducing the role of women in politics to a ‘Hot or Not’ list is nausea inducing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Boutilier voted for Ed. He’s a strange cat.
And on the “hot or not” article I’ve never felt so objectified in my life. I felt so inadequate I almost went out to get a manicure, new shoes and blonde highlights.
Amended, Brittney. Now…let me go check your website for spelling errors and see who wins. ;)
I did see that column…I re-tweeted it from my personal twitter account at some point today. It’s really not worth anybody’s time. Amazing it gets printed.
You better go out and buy some shoes. That’s the only thing keeping the economy running! (Or so I learned today.)
