Snow-kissed Edmonton Headlines

Alright, the term snow-kissed may conjure images of whimsical dustings of snow and we certainly aren’t in that neighbourhood today. So let’s just say this snow kiss is pretty aggressive. With lots of tongue.

Winter sure knows how to make an entrance. We’re getting lots of snow today and then plunging into much colder temperatures. Is it July yet?

Cromdale decision put over (Due process my butt, this reflects poorly on the city being able to do ANYTHING.)

I’m going to go on my rant at the end of the headlines today, so as to not scare you off from reading a lot of the stories.

Ahem.

What’s the deal at City Hall?

Councillors rip the library department a new one over extending their hours, which costs a couple hundred-thousand dollars, but the mayor is ready to gut a neighbourhood renewal fund because the police threaten layoffs, instead of looking for more budget efficiencies or cuts?

And then a committee has to wait until next year to hear an appeal of the Cromdale Hotel demolition. Like that thing has a chance. Or should have a chance. Right now I’m pretty sure it will be around forever while councillors throw themselves Expos and delay much-needed infrastructure and transit planning.

Oh, and if you didn’t read that Journal story about secret Conservative MLA meetings go back and do it. It might make you angry, but it’s supposed to make you angry that your government does what it wants behind closed doors.

And I thought the snow would be the worst thing today.

Well Edmonton Public Schools may not have cut jobs…. but they sure cut staff hours )… makes you wonder just why they have the sign stating “we’re hiring” outside of One Kingsway
