It’s February 12 and here are your headlines

THAT'S why everyone has red mitts!

Happy Friday, Edmonton!

Not only is it Friday, it’s the Friday before Valentine’s Day (for anyone who wants to get all lovey-dovey). If you’re thinking about where to go for a nice, romantic-sytle, dinner I’d suggest you see what the first couple of Edmonton’s online community have to say about that.

And it just so happens to be the Family Day long weekend. Thanks, Don Getty.

Although, I’m sure the Stelmach government doesn’t want Getty’s name being thrown around a whole lot. Getty’s best remembered, rightly or wrongly, for deficit-ridden governments that led to Ralph Klein’s cuts of the 90s. But he also gave us a holiday in February, which is pretty awesome.

Ooh, and don’t forget that the Lunar New Year is this weekend too. Man, our events listing later today is going to be fun…

City curbs sky shuttle service (F this. I don’t want to pay $45 for a cab ride if it’s a few blocks to the nearest hotel and a $15 ride to the airport.)

Duckett ponders new health hires (Oh yeah, that guy is still in charge…)

Parks funding trimmed in favour of tourism (But if more people visit and there are less people taking care of the parks, then…my head hurts.)

Washington trip to focus on energy exports (More on energy from the CBC’s Don Newman, below.)

Reducing Alberta’s carbon footprint

from CBC Edmonton:

3 officers face disciplinary hearings (This is the case from 2005 where officers rounded up homeless people, drove them around in the back of the paddy wagon, then dumped them across town.)

Law needed for rainy day fund: minister (You know, for after they spend it all.)

Stelmach defends higher health spending

Time for a reality check on Alberta’s ‘dirty oil’

from CTV Edmonton:

Katz breaks his silence on funds for downtown arena (So, if I offer you $100 for your meal if we go to dinner, then change it to $100 for my meal, you’re cool with that, right?)

Get your news all read up for the long weekend.
