Scrambled #yeg

Totally random and with nothing to do with this post (outside of name); I had scrambled eggs in my breakfast burrito this morning. It was delicious.

Now, here’s some weird stuff I’ve spotted around this fair city of ours. I like to call this scrambled #yeg to combine one of my favourite foods and Twitter’s Edmonton hashtag. Oh, and I’ve done this before.

I can only imagine the first day of school, and this is your first classroom.

There has to be upwards of $12 on that boat.

The lady is real-size, the door is not. What's up with that door?!

This is over in Old Strathcona's theatre district. I don't know why. But it's cool.

Insert pants joke here.

I particularly like “The lady is real-size, the door is not.” and I second the “What’s up with that door?!”

    Pants literally on the ground.

And yeah, what is that shiny tower above Strathcona? It just kind of appeared one day.

It’s a door in a parkade by the Citadel, Library, etc… I don’t know…maybe Sally (and Charlie Kaufman) is onto something…

I still haven’t see the infamous “pants on the ground” video. Maybe I should hit up YouTube right now.

Oh, and that tower is odd. You can kind of see in the photo how it’s got these colourful tiles all over. Some kind of public art, I guess.

The tower is on the Varscona Theatre? south side of 83 ave between 103 & 104 streets.
The Varscona theatre and the Walterdale theatre across the street were both formerly firehalls.
As the story goes, the tower at the Varscona was for hanging the fire hoses.
The tower has been there all along, but the lights have clearly brought more attention.

A bit more history: the Varscona theatre building was originally called the Chinook Theatre. (The Chinook company nurtured the Edmonton Fringe Festival, and eventually became Fringe Theatre Adventures.)
The Varscona name came from the late (ie torn down) movie theatre that once graced the south-west corner of Whyte Avenue & 109 Street.
