Western Canada Fashion Week kicked off with a bang this year, with a performance by the University of Alberta dance team.

Showcasing young stylists, new designers, and the collection of  last year’s winner in the emerging designer category – Sid Neigum-  the night was filled with young talent and fresh style.

A piece from the Sid Neigum collection.

With performances from Cite Ballet and Firefly Theatre, WCFW’s first day was a sold out event.

Styling some Amanda Yeo.

Western Canada Fashion Week (Which is what we’re calling Edmonton Fashion Week from here on out. Until the next name change.) runs until Thursday, April 8. Everything is happening at the TransAlta Arts Barns.

Well Edmontonian folks, I was unaware that you knew Angela Ostafichuk. I’m glad to see that more people I know are coming together to do great things.

    Heh, small world.

And actually, meeting Angela was quite the accidental occurrence.

We were doing this thing called #YegSwap a few weekends back, over at The ARTery, and she came in to see if the venue would let her drop off a few copies of phabrik, the official Western Canada Fashion Week magazine. I happened to be at the front door when she came bounding in, full of fashiony energy, and pointed her in the direction of actual ARTery staff.

But, I had just recently received an e-mail from the WCFW team about covering the week…got to chatting with Angela and, well, you can see for yourself that we are more than happy to have the edmontonian’s first Fashion Bureau Chief.

Just wanted to offer a small correction – the last outfit shown was actually styled by Amanda Yeo (she happens to be my sister :).

Edmonton Fashion Week this September 2010 should be as good or even better, though I do think they need good image consultants this time around.
