Sorry for getting all Coco on you, Edmonton, but I’m pretty excited for Conan O’Brien tomorrow night.
It will also be one of my rare trips out to the River Cree Casino, or any casino for that matter. I’ve been seeing Conan clips pop up on YouTube, but held myself to watching just one. I don’t want to ruin the show if they’re using similar bits. (Which I wouldn’t blame them for, on a long North American tour.)
I expect this will be one of those shows that works really well since everyone going likely wants to be there, wants to see what Conan and the crew has in store. And I really, really want to see Andy.
I had another rant ready to go…but there is SO MUCH NEWS today that you need time to read up before the weekend.
Kiosks take aim at Edmonton panhandlers (This is a great idea.)
Report says cap on subsidized housing is an option (Should we be dumping our problems into the same neighbourhoods, again and again?)
Alberta, Quebec share common ground (Oh, hi, Gilles Duceppe.)
Burnt-out Edmonton home for seniors to rise from ashes (Continuing care spaces are getting a bunch of money.)
Lab-on-a-chip wins entrepreneurs prize
Swann wants Alberta premier to reign in backbenchers
Economic prophecies abound at premier’s dinner (I’d be careful with the word “prophecy” from a government that depends on oil and gas money to look like they have a clue.)
Churchill Square ideas fair gets ‘em thinking (Get your Churchill Square ideas into the City.)
Quarrel over woman leads to gunshots (That is so old-school chivalrous. And stupid.)
Election forms available for potential candidates (Are you going to run for council? School board, perhaps? This is also a good chance to point out that down at the bottom of our home page you can find an RSS feed of items like this, from the City of Edmonton.)
Underwear Affair aims below the belt
Alberta’s finance minister displeased with ATB’s millions in cost-overruns
NAIT students wait to hear about program cuts
Edmonton to get a handle on aggressive panhandling (They’ll start on Jasper and Whyte, of course.)
ETS buses to airport panned in city report (What’s panned is the City paying for everything. Come on, regional municipalities like Leduc, chip in some cash.)
Auditor’s criticism of workplace safety hailed by AFL
Alberta funds carbon emission research network
Rural MLA uncertain on distracted driving bill (He actually says “city people” are worse. Good thing all those highway deaths and crashes, happen in cities, keeping rural Alberta so safe. Puh-leeze.)
EnCana bomber letter received by B.C. paper (A new letter, new threats.)
Alberta mulls fine for fixing hair while driving (We’ve already linked you to the legislation on banning cell phones and other distractions while driving. But if you’ve been around the last few weeks you know I’m calling out newsrooms for the incessant use of the word MULL. I get it when councillors or MLAs vote, vote, vote on issue after issue, thus lots of stories would have headlines with words like “vote.” But “mull” is not like that. Dammit, can’t Alberta consider, think about, ponder or look at a “…fine for fixing hair while driving?” Get a thesaurus!)
Hey, can you help me out? Can you head here, to Global’s videos, and try to play one. Does it work for you?
Film Fest pre-screening (The public is helping out the Edmonton International Film Festival choose some of this year’s movies.)
There’s never a reason to apologize for gettin’ all Coco. I too am incredibly excited for the show!
