18th June, 2010 Edmonton Headlines

This strange photo for today’s look at the news comes from the one and only Gregg Beever.

At first you look at it and you’re just “Whatever, it’s a TV in a parking lot, I see that all the time. People throw their garbage everywhere and I…wait…is it…plugged in?”

Yes, it is. Someone brought their TV to work with them. Or some TV junkie is roaming the streets, looking for an outlet to plug in their television and get their tube fix.

You know, they could just get an iPad. It would probably save them some back pain.

Hey, don’t forget, you could win $95-million tonight.

That seems like so much money I can’t even wrap my head around it.

from the Edmonton Journal:

And we end on an up-note: Dinosaurs! And more dinosaurs!

The City should totally sponsor YouTube videos!

I hope someone was watching the World Cup on that TV.

We were just talking about Lindsay (hee hee! GIRL’S NAME!!! Does he hang out with Laurie Hawn?!?)) Blackett’s comments here at work; while it’s hard to necessarily disagree with the fact that there is a LOT of horrible, horrible Canadian TV (I won’t point fingers *cough*SoupNews*cough*), it’s absolutely ridiculous that the Alberta Minister of Culture is ripping on content for which he is indirectly responsible… Admittedly, good programming isn’t totally dependent on the amount of money put into it, but it really helps. One episode of a show like ‘ER’ cost more than an entire season of a show like ‘Caution: May Contain Nuts’.
It’s a bit like the government slashing funding to schools and laying off teachers, then turning around and saying “Man, our kids are fuckin’ STUPID! What’s up with THAT?!?”
