Now what?
Does it feel like Edmonton is just a little tired today, a little hungover from the Grey Cup party? Everything seems like it’s just a step or two slower. Maybe it’s just me. (And I didn’t even go to the game.)
If you’re still jonesing for some football, you can check out the NFL variety this evening. You’ll likely find beer and snack specials at bars for Monday Night Football. Ceili’s, for example, has bottomless wings.
If you don’t need football or, in the case of a lot of Roughriders fans, don’t want to talk about football for a little while, you can partake in some Movember action. Tonight is the MoCupcakes YEG Challenge, over at Transcend-Garneau. There will be judging of the manliest cupcakes. Don’t worry, the cupcakes may have moustaches on them but won’t be made of moustaches. (I hope.)
And if you are in the mood for neither football nor cupcakes you can check out the West LRT information session at the Fantasyland Hotel. There will be presentations at 4:30 and 7pm (with the open house running 4-9pm). You’ll be able to learn about the proposed LRT line that will travel Stony Plain Road, past the West Edmonton Mall, and out to Lewis Estates. Then you can go shopping.
Twitter party, ya’ll
Do you want to know who likes to party?

I endorse this message. I endorse fun.
Twitter people (tweeple, or, tweeps) like to party.
Heck, we do it all the time.
We’re doing it tonight. Come on out.
Tweetups (see what I did there?) are one of the perks of being on Twitter. It’s like having a whole new group of friends. And, unlike Facebook events that nobody shows up to, the tweetups usually have a fair-sized group.
I’ve been a few tweetups now, and I always meet new people. Don’t you want to meet new and exciting people (without having to call late-night chat lines)?
And, while people are certainly tweeting about the latest celebritiy gossip, there’s actually quite a bit of intelligent debate and political discourse happening. Get your (smart) party on.
p.s. tonight’s tweetup is at Ceili’s Irish pub, at 6:30.
International Beer Day

Have a drink on, er, for me
In all the excitement of Edmonton’s greatest modern day moment we forgot that August 5 is a time to celebrate beer.
Could this be closer to a made-up Internet holiday than a U.N. sanctioned kind of “day.” Yes.
But Smithwick’s is the beer of 2009 and you should track some down tonight because fake holiday or not, it’s beer we’re talking about.
Here is a list of places to start your hunt:
Ceili’s (watch your speaker volume on this one)
Devaney’s, Rose and Crown, Sherlock Holmes
My kingdom* for a photo of the aforementioned Smithwick’s this fair evening.
And where can I find Smithwick’s in Edmonton? Heck, where are the best places for beer in Edmonton? Let me know in the comments.
(Kudos to Ceili’s and The Sugarbowl for having beers on their websites.)
*I won’t give you anything but praise.
