Scrambled #yeg
Here are some odds and ends from around this fair city of ours. I like to call this scrambled #yeg, combining one of my favourite foods and Twitter’s Edmonton hashtag.
You can see other fun stuff we’ve found here.
This dentist takes his teeth very seriously.
(Anyone else know where this dental office is?)
When do all of our buses get DVD players, ETS?
If you’re walking down Whyte Avenue take a look down at your feet. That’s where you’ll spot these babies.
Sock on the LRT.
Umm, it’s a sock on the LRT.
And finally…
May 17 Edmonton Headlines
Gonna be a hot one today.
Hot yesterday. Uh-huh. Gonna be hot again tomorrow.

The tooth they pulled out of my mouth was really big. Well, not this big. And it also didn't talk, like this one.
That probably doesn’t bode well for the fire just outside of the city. Here’s hoping the wind plays for our side and then we get some rain.
In me news, I had a wisdom tooth pulled this weekend and worked on freeing up more space on our PVR. So, I actually hid from that glorious weather most of the time.
Except when I went to get ice cream.
But enough about my convalescence…how about all this stuff going on?!

Take a peek behind the scenes at RAM (You can see some the Royal Alberta Museum’s collection, the stuff not on display, for free, all day tomorrow.)

New signs won’t stop speeders (Actually, the old ones didn’t either. Neither, it seems, does even enforcing the speed limit.)

Friday Headlines
Happy Days may be ahead, Edmonton.
It sounds like all that oil in that there ground is going to save us, again. The Premier told his best friends and colleagues, at his annual Edmonton dinner, that energy revenues are cutting the deficit. More tax revenues are helping too.
Then the government promptly started throwing (Indy) money around (Expo), showing how they’ve run this province so smoothly for four decades with good, fiscal planning.
Interesting to note, that while energy revenues are touted here and here, CHED/iNews doesn’t mention the oil money. The problem with that is that it gives the impression the ruling party actually knows what its doing.
And I don’t think it’s even opinion to say financial problems in Alberta’s government can’t be pinned on the recession, since the whole deal seems centered around energy revenues.
But enough of my ranting. It’s the weekend and we should read through all of this stuff to get to the penguin story and be ready for a fun couple of days.
from the Edmonton Journal:
Zoning not best way to handle Edmonton massage parlour problems: report
Katz’s bad timing risks project
Syncrude asked to do impossible: White (Maybe that’s it right there. Maybe there’s no way to be environmentally sound while digging oil from the ground.)

Hundreds march against abortion through downtown Edmonton
New media leaves news bans in dust (Court-related publication bans need to keep up with technology and communication. You’re welcome, traditional news media.)

Police experts: graffiti lacks artistic merit (I take issue with some of the stuff in this column. Gang tags, or anything that’s associated with gangs or criminals, is fine to rub out and ticket people for. But some stuff really is “street art.”)
from Metro Edmonton:
All this Indy cash could be much better spent
Eight-year-old recovering after receiving new lungs (The youngest in Alberta to have this surgery.)

from 630CHED/iNews880:
Long-time councillor won’t seek re-election (Dave Thiele is out.)
UPDATE: LRT train fire (Public transit is so hot right now.)
Smile, you’re on traffic camera (This story poses the question of whether red light and green light cameras are cutting the number of collisions. If ticket numbers are up, or the same, then it would be sheer luck, but if ticket numbers are down then we might actually be getting the message to drive better.)
U of A med student has the right stuff
from CBC Edmonton:
Jasper Avenue to get public toilets this summer (Jasper gets temorary urinals and toilets, while Whyte is going to be getting permanent public washrooms.)
Petition demands probe into deaths of Somali-Canadians (Here’s your probe: They got into drugs and gangs and those kinds of people won’t talk to police and help solve the murders. Now, focus on keeping people out of that lifestyle.)

City set to remove dozens of mature, dead trees on Whyte Ave
Edmonton family seeks financial help from Alberta gov’t to pay for son’s surgery
