A rollicking weekend

You’re in for one of those, Edmonton. And the weather is even

I guess we know which one of us will be watching movies for free.

supposed to be nice. So let’s all remember to take advantage of that.

The Edmonton International Film Festival is underway tonight. There’s an opening night movie and gala, then it’s a week+ of movies, movies, and more movies.

Speaking of movies…

The Old Strathcona Foundation is hosting A Taste of Old Strathcona, tonight at the Arts Barns. It will be food and a silent auction, all the with flair of Edmonton’s funnest neighbourhood.

Speaking of the Old Strathcona neighbourhood…Edmonton Chante is back for another year of the city’s best French music. The shows are free. Free I tells ya!

Speaking of music…Falklands is, of course, playing New City. It’s the first show of their national tour. We think they’re great.

The ARTery continues its fundraising Happy Hour Fridays. This month’s charity is Room to Read. Plus, there are rumours of a new nacho treat.

Danny Michel is playing the Arden Theatre. He’s also great. And he’s following up his show tonight with a songwriter’s session with U22.

Chopin 2010 begins this weekend. It’s months of music and events to celebrate the 200th birthday of Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin. (You probably recognize some of his work.)

Speaking of classical music (more…)

Nachos!

You love nachos.

We all do.

It’s OK for you to admit it. This is a safe place.

Everyone likes nachos, because you can load them up with meat, veggies, cheese, soy-cheese, whatever. It’s a food that can bring together foodies of all walks. And don’t even get me started on the possibilities of sides and dips.

Thank goodness, Edmonton now has its own official nacho blog. Tell Katie what you think of nachos, how to make super-kick-ass nachos, where to go for nachos, what you think of what she thinks of nachos from around Edmonton, and other nacho-related information.

Katie, we are going to make you our Nacho Bureau Chief, once our Bureau Chief money comes in.

Why Duncan Paterson of Magic 99 is mine and Jeff’s new BFF

Duncan Paterson of Magic 99

No, it’s not just because he likes nachos, which I can’t guarantee he does because I don’t know him. I will say that this picture would certainly suggest a solid pro-nacho stance, for which one can only respect a person.

No, it’s because he’s been giving us shout-outs this week on Magic 99′s morning show! That’s pretty awesome of you to do, sir! Listen to this clip from Duncan’s show, you guys!

You can listen to Magic 99 online here, and read Duncan’s blog here. Ol’ D.P., as Jeff and I like to call Duncan during the times when we hang out and have nachos (which is never) is a pretty funny dude, and he made me LOL when he suggested that Joe Sakic and Harry Connick Jr. may be the same person.

So I guess this means we’re kind of a big deal. …I’m just sayin’.

So anyway, thanks Duncan! And if you want to have a nacho night with me & Jeff, just drop us a line. Maybe you can come over and we’ll deep-fry some stuff.
