Hallowe’en Headlines
The alternative title of today’s post is “Oily Arena Headlines.”
Let’s begin with the oil.
Good news for Syncrude. There are also dead ducks at the Kearl oilsands site.
Alberta has also won over a U.S. official looking into international energy options.
There’s talk of a national energy plan. But since the talk is coming from an energy company I’ll be interested to see if this ignites the usual amount of unrest from people still smarting over the National Energy Program.
Stelmach to visit ‘wrong Indians’ That headline is about The Premier’s $80,000 trip (with our tax dollars) to India, and his long reluctance to travel to Fort Chipewyan. Some point to Fort Chip as ground zero for the oilsands’ toll on humans. But it’s taken years, and a plane ticket purchased by a student group, to finally get Ed Stelmach to head up to Fort Chipewyan.
Now onto the arena.
Have you taken the downtown arena questionnaire yet?
It’s leading questions have me convinced we’re getting the arena whether we want it or not, so it’s best to complete the survey to at least try and steer how things are done.
David Staples is also talking about the survey in his Journal column.
On with the rest of the news. Which is quite a lot for a Friday actually. There’s even a tasty tidbit about all that anti-Mandel fake blogging… (more…)
Edmonton’s October 29 Headlines

The Garneau is in the news today!
Good Thursday to you, dear Edmonton.
How goes it?
Before I forget to mention it, today is the anniversary of Black Tuesday. This still being a recession and all, the worst since that stock market crash, I thought it worth mentioning.
Thursday also means it’s Alt-weekly day, so don’t forget to check out what SEE and Vue are up to.
And, Thursday continues to be a boffo day for news.
