When I first considered doing a story to inform you all how much I enjoy a trip to Two Rooms Restaurant on Whyte Avenue, I seriously debated just posting a picture of the amazing carrot cake they serve. This would’ve benefited me twofold; 1) I am lazy, and 2) I would’ve had an excuse to down some carrot cake.
But! After a brief conversation with Two Rooms owner Connie John one day over breakfast, I knew I couldn’t just phone it in. Even if it meant bypassing carrot cake for the short term.
Connie is an elegant, charming lady whose passion for food is unmistakable. She is not a career restaurateur; in fact, her resume will probably surprise you. (more…)

Hey gang, Jeff here.
Little Miss Curious is taking today off, probably learning about freaky stuff the rest of us will never even hear about.
So I searched “edmonton” and “sexy” on YouTube.
Check above for a video that I include because on first read of its title I thought it was going to be a video of me doing really dumb stuff on Whyte. Thankfully, that is yet to turn up. Also, a lot of people use the tag “sexy” on YouTube.

I also Googled "edmonton"+"sexy"
Yeah…I’ll be sure to leave the sexiness to the experts from now on.
To catch up on Little Miss’ antics and advice, start here.

So a few days ago, I tore myself away from riding the INTERNETS long enough to venture out into society.
Anyway, I was wandering around the Whyte Avenue area, past the Old Strathcona Youth Society (which, in case you’re not familiar, describes itself as “a multi-agency project dedicated to being a street-level resource to youth in the Whyte Avenue area”), when I came upon an unexpected scene; a bunch of the young folks having a mid-afternoon drum circle. (more…)

(Update: I’ve added a video story, and slightly altered the wording of this post from it’s first version Monday.)
We’re glad we did hear that SOS.
SOS Fest rocked Whyte Avenue this weekend. 150+ bands and musicians…20+ venues…wow.
We were talking about it for three days at a special “on assignment” blog.
I really enjoyed Dead Ghosts, out of Vancouver. They were probably my favourite band of the festival. The Joe tried to tear Wunderbar apart with his set, as part of an Old Ugly showcase. Cadence Weapon blew the roof off the Pawn Shop. And The Sherry-Lee Wisor trio kicked things off for me, setting the bar quite high.
I also uploaded a lot of my photos to my Flickr account, and added them to the edmontonian Flickr pool.
Plus, a few of my interviews from the weekend are now playing at our YouTube channel. (The story on the festival – embedded above – is also at our YouTube now.)
There are more photos, videos, links, reviews, and thoughts at our SOS Fest blog.
We’ll always take your own stories, experiences, photos and videos.
Check Twitter for more comments and updates from people who went to the shows, and played, this weekend.

That's Gregg Beever buying a CD from SOS performer Carrie Hryniw. At Funky Pickle, of all places.
